I’m not that fond of March I have to say. This is surprising to some since it is my birthday month, but it usually rains, and it is the month of St. Patty’s day, which I ALWAYS forget to wear green on and inevitably get pinched.
This year however, March has not been too shabby. Unfortunately I have forgotten most of the reasons why I was so excited to write about how March didn’t suck this year, because It has taken me so long to get it together and write it down. But here are some highlights:
-On March 2nd I got to accompany some Cal 4 folks to a reception in honor of Tony Brown. He is this years recipient of the Cecil Scaife Visionary Award. Tony is one of those men in the industry that make you think, ‘wow, I’ve got some work to do.’ The list of his achievements is incredibly impressive and includes playing in Elvis’ band, Playing with Emmylou Harris, and producing Reba and George Strait among many others. Sitting in that room and listening to people like Lee Ann Womack and Rodney Crowell talk about the impact he has had on them, and his many accomplishments through the years, was both inspiring and encouraging. I want to make waves like that!
-Back in Oregon, when I was starting Highschool, my confidence level was pretty low when it came to singing. I would sit in my room for hours writing song after song, but was shy to sing them to anyone. I was finally able to break out of my shell, and I owe that in a lot of ways to a woman named Rachel. She was my piano and voice teacher. A couple years younger than I am now at the time, she and her husband had a successful band in Portland and she had all the confidence that I was missing. She became a huge support and helped me to see my dreams as an actual possibility. Fast forward to this March, Rachel and her husband, who still have a band together, came into town to hang out and do some writing and playing. I ended up getting to spend some great time with her in the very place that I always dreamed of being, and am able to be, with the help of her encouragement. It was such and awesome full circle moment for me.
-Last highlight of March was my birthday. It was so much fun! I had a bunch of people come and hang out at a cool joint called Mafiaozas in Nashville. We laughed and ate Pizza and I felt so much love from them. My sister made me an angel food cake too, my Favorite! The night made me feel like, despite a few quirks I’m trying to work out, I am in a good spot in my life right now. Cause no matter what, if you are surrounded by good people, most anything is enjoyable!
Yay March!
